A First Amendment Right to Lie?

The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to review a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision invalidating the “Stolen Valor Act,” which makes it a crime to lie about one’s military service.  In United States v. Alvarez, the court will decide if lying is protected under the First Amendment.  At issue is whether certain types of lies can be criminalized by the U.S. Congress.
